Splurge on Photography
Long after the celebration ends, your photos become one of the most tangible ways to revisit the joy, emotion, and details of your wedding day.
Photography consistently ranks among the investment couples value more after their wedding. If you’re deciding where to allocate your budget, this is one area worth prioritizing. If needed, consider scaling back on extras like an engagement session (we all know a bestie who would love to do a phone shoot). You’ll want to secure a photographer whose work gives you the warm and fuzzies. Booking 12-18 months in advance can often lock you in at a better rate.
Splurge on Guest Experience
The moments your guests share with you are part of what makes a wedding unforgettable.
Great food, welcoming hospitality, and a comfortable atmosphere help create an experience that everyone remembers fondly. Whether that’s an incredible meal, a favorite cocktail, or a venue that perfectly reflects your vision, these investments often leave a lasting impression.
You still can save by choosing off-season(November - March) or off-peak days(Sunday-Thursday) for better savings). All-inclusive venues often save money vs. à la carte (barn/park/backyard) - rental fees do add up.
Save on Florals
B-E-A-UTIFUL florals don’t have to mean an unlimited floral budget.
Seasonal blooms, local flowers, and thoughtful greenery can create a lush, elevated look while keeping costs manageable. Sometimes the most stunning designs come from a simple, intentional approach. Another instance where scaling back on the extras will help; ceremony chairs or full aisle florals can be swapped for two - four isle anchors.
Save on Cake, Stationary, and Favors
Some of the easiest budget-friendly opportunities are in the details.
A smaller yet elegant display cake paired with a behind-the-scenes sheet cake/desserts(Costco, Sam’s, Price Chopper, Hannaford’s - Better Cream cakes, cookies, build your own mini cheesecakes even) can provide the same experience at a fraction of the cost. Digital save-the-dates and wedding websites simplify communication while reducing printing and postage expenses - we love an eco initiative! When it comes to favors, thoughtful edible treats(sourced from a small business and locally), charitable donations, or handwritten notes at each guest’s seat often make a bigger impact than the items that may never leave the reception.
Save on Entertainment Upgrades and Transportation
A talented DJ can create an incredible dance floor experience while keeping costs lower than a live band.
The same mindset applies to transportation. Instead of multiple vehicles, a thoughtfully planned shuttle - or simply choosing accommodations close to your venue - can simplify logistics and save money.
One of our favorite ways to still provide a safe ride home but eliminating Transportation is to provide an Uber code/voucher for guests(you are only charged for what is used).
Leave Room for the Unexpected
One of the smartest budget decisions you can make is reserving 5-10% of your budget for unexpected expenses.
Weather backup plans, vendor adjustments, or those last-minute additions that inevitably pop up are all part of the planning journey. Having a little flexibility built in allows you to navigate surprises with confidence.
